New Animal Discovered!!!
On the afternoon of the 32nd March 2021, in the forest of Cannock Chase, one of our expert scientific photographers took this incredible photograph of what is believed to be an entirely new animal!
This creature was spotted by the eagle-eyed member of the STEM Response Team at 4:65pm near the stepping stones in Cannock Chase forest, Staffordshire. When asked about it’s strange appearance, the team member stated:
“It was haphazardly hopping around, almost as if it was looking for something. It was carrying some colourful eggs — what I can only assume is it’s offspring. Perhaps it was searching for something to carry them in, such as a basket.” — STEM Response Team Member
After consulting resident STEM Response Team animals expert and PhD candidate Ellesse Janda, it was confirmed that the strange features all have their own biological purpose. “The creature is quite truly magical in terms of its morphology. It’s long, slender tail may be used for balance, seen often in many arboreal primate species. The ears are highly developed, meaning it has the excellent ability to ignore you.”
Ellesse then went on to say, “Looking at the dentition, this species appears to be an omnivore, and with its highly adapted ears and nose, we can assume that it does indeed exhibit predatory behaviour. However, the body appears similar to that of a cetacean, having a streamlined texture which could be an adaptive mechanism for reducing surface tension. The forelegs are also suggestive of an aquatic lifestyle, so it is very strange indeed that this creature was found on land! Perhaps it is a new evolutionary tree of amphibian? Further studies are definitely required to understand the ecology of this newly discovered species.”
From these scientific observations, we recommend you keep an eye out for this elusive animal throughout the late evenings and early mornings of later March and early April.
